No: 318, 11 December 2020, Press Release on the Signing of the Protocol in Baku on December 10, 2020 Regarding Travel with Identity Cards for Mutual Visits of the Citizens of the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan

Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Dışişleri Bakanlığı 11.12.2020

President Erdoğan paid an official visit to friendly and brotherly Azerbaijan on 9-10 December 2020 upon the invitation of the President of Azerbaijan, H.E.Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

During this meaningful visit, we are very pleased with the signing of the Protocol that allows the citizens of the two countries to visit each other with their identity cards, which will pave the way for our peoples to come together more closely.

Immediately after Azerbaijan abolished the visa requirement for Turkish citizens, on 25 February 2020, the visa-free residence period of citizens of the two countries was increased from 30 days to 90 days. According to the Protocol, signed by Minister Çavuşoğlu with his Azerbaijani counterpart on 10 December, citizens of the two countries will be able to visit Turkey and Azerbaijan by presenting only an Identity card.

This new arrangement, which will further increase the contact between our peoples, is also very meaningful in terms of expressing the level of our relations with Azerbaijan.
