Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Dışişleri Bakanlığı 28.01.2015

No: 35, 28 January 2015

Turkey will provide medical supplies to the friendly countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, which have been directly affected by the Ebola virus epidemic that broke out in West Africa in April 2014, with the aim of extending support to their dedicated efforts conducted with the contributions of the international community in fighting the epidemic that has transformed into a global humanitarian crisis due to its socio-economic impacts.

As a result of the meticulous work carried out by the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey on the current lists of medical supplies required in the fight against the Ebola virus epidemic, assistance with a total value of 2.5 million Turkish Lira (TL) will be provided for the three countries. The first batch of supplies will be delivered to Conakry, the capital of Guinea on 28 January 2015. Subsequent deliveries will be made to Sierra Leone and Liberia on 30 January 2015.

Turkey will maintain its support for the efforts in the fight against the Ebola virus epidemic, initiated bilaterally by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and sustained through these deliveries, in multilateral platforms, primarily in the United Nations, World Health Organization and the African Union, and also at the bilateral level.
