Press Release Regarding the Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to New York within the Framework of the Fourth Review Meeting of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu will participate in the Fourth Review Meeting of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy to be held in New York on 12-13 June 2014.

The implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, which constitutes an important roadmap for international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, is reviewed biannually. In this framework, the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations assumes the role of facilitator on the negotiations of the UN General Assembly resolution to be adopted during the Fourth Review meeting.

A high-level meeting entitled “Interactive Dialogue on Addressing Conditions Conducive to the Spread of Terrorism” will be held on 11 June 2014 in the margins of the review meeting under the chairmanship of Mr. John Ashe, the President of the United Nations General Assembly and with the participation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu will address the opening session of the abovementioned high-level meeting as well as the opening session of the Fourth review meeting of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy which will begin on 12 June.

Minister Davutoğlu will meet with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to discuss various international and regional developments.

Minister Davutoğlu will also have contacts in New York with various regional groups regarding the candidacy of Turkey for the United Nations Security Council for the term 2015-2016.
